BOV question
by justin
This question is to who ever can answer it:

Say when you turbo a car with CIS injection, say like with the calloway kit on rabbits. The turbo is actually sucking through the air box. If you run a BOV right before the throttle body blowing off into the atmospmer, will the car sputter?
When it blows off into the atmospher the air is already "accoutned for" which will cause the car to run rich because the pressure is bled. If so I know this problem can be cured by blowing off back into the intake before the turbo. I was just wondering.

16v rabbit
by Evan
I was just wondering if a 16.0 quarter mile time is a slow time for an 2.0 16v rabbit gti with a stock rabbit gti tranny. I was expecting a much faster time, but felt the tranny was maybe the problem(too close of a ratio). My 60ft times were 2.2 with a speed of 86mph. Any comments and or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Also car is for sale.

by paul
Evan, thats seems alittle slow to me.I did a similar conversion on a 84 gti.2.0 16v with a 4k trans it ran 15.0 93 mph.it only had a good exhaust and k+n filter. your trans has great ratios for your application.did you transplant the knock sensor ign and fuel system?it will need it to run properly.good luck

Autotech supercharger clone????
by Adam
I am wondering what the problem with the autotech supercharger kits for 8v's was and if anyone has tried a similar install with a eaton type charger. using a custom intake manifold(I figure if a custom exhaust manifold can be made, why not a custom intake) I like the position in which the autotech charger is placed replacing the intake manifold. I am at a lack of space in my jetta because it just gets to hot here to remove my A/C and the size of the eaton chargers limits mounting positions. PLEASE Help I want to force some air in my A1 jetta but turbos arn't the way I want to go.
Thanks.
PS I have nothing against turbos but I live in CA and it's a hell of a lot easier to remove the intake manifold for smog than it is to remove the exhaust manifold.

Autotech supercharger problems
by Anonymous
Well besides that the autotech kit is long out of production and hard to find, the main problem with it is the drive system. It runs right off the cam if I am not mistaken.... anyway I know that it has a real tendency to snap timing belts = big pain in the ass. Try to get any decent level of boost out of it and you are replacing timing belts as often as you fill up your tank. A kid had one around here. Neat looking but he ended up parting the car out because of all the problems he had with it. I think when it was running right the car went high 14's. This in an a2 git....partially stripped interior, 13 or 14 inch rims, and I can't remember what trans. I only saw the car once, and didn't see it run though.

tranny!
by DRED
Ok guys, I've heard a lot of opinions on VW boxes so I figured i would bring it to the R&D crew. I have a 2y box and I'm being told that I need to go to a 02A g60 box because it's stronger and has better gearing. I prefer mid to top-end runs and in N/A form the gearing runs out at about 135-140.
I was also told that an LSD would cure all the problems with the VW box. Physically the mainshaft on the 02A is bigger so does this mean a considerable increase in strength? Or is it that the VW boxes are just weak no matter which one. What are you guys experiences with these boxes on the track and off. With LSD and without.Us grasshoppers wanna know....

head gasket and lost HP?
by brandon
high guys i have a ?. i have been running a 2.0l with a 1.8 16v head in my GTI now when i put it together i put on one of those layered metal gaskets like on a G60 and i noticed it is alot thicker than the stock type gasket. now what i was wandering is how much do you think this gasket would drop the compression and would it rob me of HP. i've seen similiar all motor cars like mine running high(very high)14's in the 1/4 and my best all motor pass is a 15.4 (and i have more work done than some of these other 14 second GTI's)i'm trying to find the missing power, and i think it might be the compression, any ideas(and no it's not my driving)

2.0l block,1.8l head,autotech sport cams, fuel box,K&N, lightened flywheel,velocity diff kit,Tectonics 2" racing downpipe and 2.25 exhaust.no a/c no power steering, gutted interior.

lost hp
by paul
Hey Brandon,You never mentioned your trap speed which is a true barometer of HP.Et can vary alot with traction and weight. An example 60 ft times are critical ; a tenth on the sixty foot is worth double on top end.you can run a 14,9 at 90 mph wiht a 2.0 sixty foot or run a 15.3 at 90 mph with a 2.2 sixty foot.notice the speed is the same.YOU really need to compare apples with apples.you should have trap speed around 92-94 mph with your setup my bone stock block 2.0 16v scirocco ran 2.2 60ft 15.2 at 92 with no mods.also keep track of motor temp and ambient air temp.these all influence hp.I used the head gasket you mention and the diffrence is neglible I dont think thats your problem.also that power module i`ve tried with no real sucess.it often ran better with out it.good luck

15.2?
by Justin
How did you get a stock 2L 16V 'rocco to run 15.2?
My friend can only get 15.2 out of a 2000 Vr6 GTi with intanke and exhaust. Tell me your secrets...
My car is a 1.8 16V with a couple mods and I can only get it to run 16.2@85 (clutch sliped in 1st 2nd and alil' in 3rd) It should run about 15.8 15.9 after i put the clutch in, and even faster when my turbo is finished. Anyone tryin' to get rid of an adjustable cam sprocket for a 16V motor?
May be an auto tech one. I love techtonics, but I've heard horor stories with the 16V sprockets. A lil' splip, crash, bang and you got 16 bent valves. The Auto tech has locking pins. Sorry for rambleing on...

TT sprocket
by justin
A friend of mine has a 16V 'rocco and the sprocket decided to slip one day, it was a $1000 problem. Now that I think of it I dont think Auto-tech makes a 16V sprocket. I know TT and piper do, maybe kent? Anyway he STILL runs the sprocket but lock tighted the bolts, and checks the position every time he drives it.

15.2 yes
by paul
Oh yes Justin 15.2 theres no real secrets, good driving and cool air go along way. the car even had a stock exhaust with a punched out cat.also the autotech sprocket is good but a pain in the ass.I use the techtonics sprocket and it has never slipped.also the techtonics has up to 8 degress of adjustment, and even with that much you can`t bend any valves.I would save your money for a 2.0 bottem end.The same motor eventually got a 4 into 1 race header, schrick 268`s and a techtonics exhaust. We dynoed it at 153 hp to the wheels on a 248c dynojet and the motor was still going lean above 6500.it ran a 14.6 at 95 after the mods. see you at the strip

my poor 60' times
by brandon
well pual i was looking through my slips and your right about the 60' times i think it does have a lot to do with my traction the diff kit might be wore out by now cause it does spin the passenger side wheel alot (way to much) and usualy gets 2.2-2.4's in the 60'. i'm trying desperatly to save for a quaiffe diff. but thanks for the info and you said your car ran better without the fuel box? mine starves for fuel without it.

autotech cams
by brandon
well the only other cam i had in my car was a Euro intake. i do like the autotech alot, they have a great torque curve and definetly way more hp than the euro cam. plus figure you spend $200 for the euro cam and get about 5-7hp(i think) or spend $400 and get more than twice the HP and some real good top end power.autotech claims 12-17hp but who knows.

tanny?

I have a callaway turbo rabbit I was wondering if putting a G60 trans in the car is a good idea, if not what trans will work best? the car currently has a 4k and the gears are useless, too close together. Thanks for the help.

not worth it
by vlksdragon
The corrado tranny is an O2A style, which means it is cable shift and hydraulic. The conversion is not just a simple bolt in affair, but I believe eurospec or someone makes a conversion kit. If you just need wider spacing, go to an FF or FN code tranny.

Well Amy,A great trans that is easy to find wich would be a better choice is a 9A they come in scirrocos 85-88 8v`s and golf GTIs,WE use them is our turbo street cars and they seem to work the best. Also A quaife will work wonders getting the power down and also take out the weakest link in the gearbox. Its expenisve but well worht it.'Good luck

Hi all, I'm wanting to buy a rabbit with an intercooled/TC'ed motor...at least 200 ponies. If anyone saw the 82 Callaway car on vwrabbit.com for sale, that is exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately someone got to it before I had the chance, and snatched it up.

Yea....but
by tfp182
Hehe, I am on sort of a limited budget...and 200-220 horsepower is reasnable to me in a Rabbit. The main thing is, I don't have the time or money to be screwing around with combinations and parts to find what works. I am not looking to build a world beater drag car, I am not even into drag racing...just would like a nice street driven/auto-X/road race car that might spank a vette or two.

Saab 900 turbo system for 16v ?
by Adrian
I am trying to get some info together. I am thinking of using the saab 900 turbo system for a jetta 16v I have. Why saab? The system is bosch,
the ign. distributor drops right in. I am trying to find someone who has any knowledge or experience with it. Is it a good choice ( or even the volvo.)

steamfitters pipe
by seth
ASTM A106 pipe elbows can be gotten at larger hardware outfits, or steamfitting shops, maybe a heating/plumpbing supply

I used 1-1/4" which is actually 1.660" long story as to how they determin nominal versus actual size

Not fast. When he says its faster than most turbos i assume he means heavy factory turbo cars.. And even then maybe a few tenths faster.

Try fifteen point seven seconds.

Like a g grind camshaft and "forgeting" to "tighten head bolts" is going to get anywhere near 14 seconds.
